A Walk to Remember.

We again woke up at our leisure.  Did some chores around the boat after breakfast, and decided to go for a walk.

 The beach is a short walk from the marina.

 

If you can see it, it seems to blend in with my pants, I have a brace on my leg that keeps my arthritic knee, that is now bone on bone, from rubbing together.  What a difference it makes in being able to walk without being in so much pain!  So with my brace and my walking stick I am good to go anywhere!

I packed a picnic lunch before we left for the walk.  It was pleasant sitting on a bench eating our sandwiches.  The Octopus enjoyed it with us.



The stroll down the beach was chilly but I loved it!  Found some interesting shells along the way.  I told Ed I was going to be more selective this trip in how many shells I collected, but it wasn't long before that idea was gone!

I didn't keep this, but I found the barnacles fascinating on it.  Big ones!
This is how it was all down the beach.   I picked up a bunch of angel wing shells, some razor type shells and some that looked like dinosaur feet or duck feet, as well as some others I don't know the name of!
This as a big pile of different kind of shells that were washed up all in one spot.
Ed spent his time looking for sea glass.  He found 6 brown pieces.  He was disappointed he couldn't find other colors.

We didn't know what animal dug this hole and left tons of footprints in the sand.  There was a second hole not too far from it.  One was perhaps the "front" door and the other the "back" door.

Update on the name of the Octopus.  Octopussy, from the James Bond movie, and Inky, from the Nemo movie.  I am favoring Inky right now.  I am thinking of Inky Rose.  What do you think?  I am still willing to hear some more names!  Keep them coming!  I will decide next weekend.  As a refresher I had Otto, Octavia, Nautilus Compass Rose and Ollie.

Marathon, Florida

We made it to our first major destination - Marathon! We have now been here since Jan. 29th, give or take.  I am on vacation and lose track of time very easily!   We started out anchoring in Boot Key Harbor.  We put our name in for a mooring ball.  We were #24 on the waiting list.  People around here told  us it would take about 2 weeks to get one.  At that time we figured we would be leaving before then!   For those unfamiliar with a mooring ball, it is a ball with a rope and a ring on one end and the other end is attached securely to the bottom of the water.  You don't need the anchor to hold the boat you grab the ring with a boat hook and thread some line through the ring and tie the ends onto a cleat on the boat.  It holds the boat well and you don't need to worry so much about your anchor shifting or coming loose.  The anchoring in this harbor was so crowded that it made us concerned about how close we were from the boat i...

Last, but not Least of the Everglades City, Part 3

This is the last segment for the Everglades.  This is the most important one to me because it is here that we met a super group of people that were a lot of fun and a very caring group!  Some were other boaters, sail and trawler, and some were there in their motor coaches in the RV section of the park.  Some of them had their pets with them.  Sorry - I forgot the names of some the animals! Anchoring in Georgia and the Walburg Creek Episode

I am going to try a different way of blogging.  I may skip some days and not play catch up but continue from where I am.  I will fill in what I've skipped if I decide I want to include something special or of interest. I will see how it goes.  Inky Rose also needs to come exploring more.  She is so quiet that I forget to take her with me!  We have been traveling down the ICW (the ditch) steadily.  Navigating the ditch is tricky when you have to look at charts and mark down the tides, the depth, and all the times involved in a safe passage. There a few areas, especially in Georgia, where Dolce Vita has a terrible time finding a suitable anchoring spot.  Ed doesn't like to be at any depth lower than 6 or 7 ft. at low tide or deeper than 15 feet at high tide.  Since we don't have a windlass to pull up the anchor and chain, Ed has to do it himself and 15' is the limit of his ability to pull the heavy anchor and chain up.  Georgia has deep...
