Man of War

We arrived in Man of War on March 17, right on St. Patrick's Day.  We were told later that we missed a cute parade back in Marsh Harbor, where the local businesses were giving away free food and drinks!  That would have made Marsh Island a little more fun for us!

What a quaint island this is!  Absolutely loved being here.  The people were so friendly.  We did a lot of walking.

Entering Man of War

We were able to join up for a short visit with Phobe and Ron whom we met in Warderick Wells in the Exumas on our first Bahamas trip!

Some of the cute houses:

Many had widow walks on the roof.

This was a brain coral on someone's fence.

This was a very cute coffeehouse plus it was a museum.  The Albury's were a well known family on the island.  The museum had a lot of their history contained in the museum which was their original home.

This was the coffeehouse and the following photos were from the museum.

The Albury's were known for their well built boats.

This was my favorite walk on Man of War.  We walked to the low place.

This is the same kind of tree we saw at Marsh Harbor that the woodpecker was banging on.  Didn't see the bird, but here's the evidence.

This dog joined us on our walk.  In fact, he led us all the way to our destination.  If we stopped he would stop and turn around to make sure we were still with him!  After a while a man in his vehicle talked to the dog, but the dog ignored him.  Turned out he was a relative of the dog's family and said he was the local tour guide!

These were very interesting lawn ornaments!

Most of the Abacos had roosters and chickens roaming free.  These were contained in a large pen.

Close up view of our new friend!

Our destination - the Low Place - where On one side was the Sea of Abacos and on the other side was the ocean.

Our friend ran right into the water and bounced around.  This is where we parted company.  When he was done playing he left us to go back home.  We didn't get a chance to thank him for the tour!

Resting after a long walk!

I had to walk down to the sea to check for shells!

It was at this point that we first met Paula and Dan.  We ended up visiting several of the islands at the same time and did lots of things together!

Since we were on a mooring ball, I didn't have access to a bath house so I took a shower in the cockpit of the boat in the rain!  It was cold but refreshing!

Next stop Hope Town.

Fair Winds to All,

Joan
