Saturday Night at the Marina.

First thing we did on Saturday morning was sleep in til after 9:30 am!  What luxury!  After a leisurely breakfast, I took my shower and did a load of laundry - did not have much but a laundry was available, it's take advantage of something while I could!  The fun thing about going to a marina's laundry mat is meeting other boaters (mostly women) and chatting.  Nice way of meeting people!

When  I returned to the boat, Bill and Lisa arrived.  Bill immediately set out to work with Ed on the crane's bracket.  Lisa and I went to the Marina's lounge to sit and talk.  While we were there, some other boater's came in the lounge to set up for a party.  They were even going to have a band there.  We were invited to stay for the party but we opted to take a drive to a restaurant and have dinner together.

Our timing was perfect, when we went back to the boat, the men were done with the bracket.  Nice work was done!

We celebrated by going out to dinner at a hole in the wall restaurant called "Stingee Midjit."  It was a small place and it seemed whatever we asked for from the menu, which was written on a blackboard on the wall, wasn't available!   We made our decisions down to choosing our beers.  Bill wanted a Japanese beer and I wanted to follow suit, but that was the last one, so I chose a different one.  Very small place!  Later when the waitress and cook, Maggie, brought our food and beer, she couldn't find that last Japanese beer.  It took a little while but she exclaimed "oh, here it is!"  It was behind another beer.  This was amusing and it added to the quaint, cozy atmosphere of the place.  The food was fresh and delicious.  Worth going back to!  Just can't use the bathroom without a lantern or flashlight.  The overhead light was burned out and they needed to get a whole new fixture for it.  Maggie offered  me her phone's flashlight, but I figured I'd just wait!  A lot of character!

As we were leaving we noticed they delivered.  Maggie's other half drove this car for deliveries.

Bill and Lisa came back to the boat for nightcaps.  An end to a very nice day.

Man of War

We arrived in Man of War on March 17, right on St. Patrick's Day.  We were told later that we missed a cute parade back in Marsh Harbor, where the local businesses were giving away free food and drinks!  That would have made Marsh Island a little more fun for us! What a quaint island this is!  Absolutely loved being here.  The people were so friendly.  We did a lot of walking. Entering Man of War We were able to join up for a short visit with Phobe and Ron whom we met in Warderick Wells in the Exumas on our first Bahamas trip! The Abacos!

We arrived on March 12.  Our journey to the Abacos began in Marsh Harbor.  It reminded me a little bit of Marathon in the Keys. I enjoyed Marathon because there were a lot events going on in the area, Marsh Harbor didn't offer anything like that. It was an okay place, but I won't care to return.  It was mostly like a town in the States.  There were 4 hardware stores, a couple of grocery stores, and a lot of restaurants.  It was a good place to provision if you were low on groceries. I am modelling a necklace Ed bought me from one of the Islanders.  It is made from the shell of a Bahamian sea curb.  Apparently they are eaten here.  We saw them a lot on the coral in the Exumas.  They attach solidly on the coral.  The lady that made the necklace told me you have to get a knife and pry them up from the coral and then you have to dig the creature out right away otherwise it crawls into the shell and then you can't get it out.  She br...

Marathon, Florida

We made it to our first major destination - Marathon! We have now been here since Jan. 29th, give or take.  I am on vacation and lose track of time very easily!   We started out anchoring in Boot Key Harbor.  We put our name in for a mooring ball.  We were #24 on the waiting list.  People around here told  us it would take about 2 weeks to get one.  At that time we figured we would be leaving before then!   For those unfamiliar with a mooring ball, it is a ball with a rope and a ring on one end and the other end is attached securely to the bottom of the water.  You don't need the anchor to hold the boat you grab the ring with a boat hook and thread some line through the ring and tie the ends onto a cleat on the boat.  It holds the boat well and you don't need to worry so much about your anchor shifting or coming loose.  The anchoring in this harbor was so crowded that it made us concerned about how close we were from the boat i...
