Osprey Marina - What a marina! (Wacama River, SC)
By far, I love Osprey Marina! They
went out of their way to welcome us to their marina. We almost couldn't get in because of an annual sailors'
rally called Rally to the Sun. The rally consists of a number of
boats that take ICW novices down the ditch to show them how to do it.
This year there were 18 sail boats. The marina said we could stay
one night but not the 2 we wanted. Two days were preferred since we wanted to hold down for a
storm that was brewing. When we arrived they surprised us by giving us that
second night. After all that, we got some rain but no thunderstorm,
which was fine with me! The second night was a nice rest from all
the traveling!
The young woman at the fuel dock was
such an expert at what she did and so very helpful. She also helped
us get the boat in the slip without a hitch. Normally we have to put
our own fenders out, but they were already there. After tying the
boat up, she even plugged us into shore power - normally we have to
do this ourselves, as well!
When we checked into the office they
gave us a goody bag full of snacks (the bad for you kind and they
didn't make it back to the boat!) as well as a koozy, a watertight
container, a whistle, a pen and pad of paper and a paper with marina
information. This paper included such information as security code, wifi no., a list of restaurants
in the area where you could call in for a ride to the grocery store
for $10.00. We had a pizza delivered to the boat. Yum! They had an unbelievable charge of $1.00 a foot for 3
nights and then .25 a foot after that! The place was clean and very
comfortable. There was a laundry with a free washer
and dryer! Their boater's lounge had a comfy sofa and 2 reclining
chairs!
Another nicety they provided was a free
breakfast and coffee every morning. There were donuts, bagels and
cream cheese, and english muffins. We took part in this our second
morning. Yum!
While I was waiting for my laundry to
be done, I took advantage of one of those recliners and put my feet
up and crocheted. A man in the other chair started up a
conversation. We talked for a bit, and I asked him where he was
from....and wouldn't you know it....his boat was just 2 boats down
from ours 2 years ago. I thought he looked kind of familiar but not
enough to make the connection. He seemed to recognize me. He
definitely remembered our boat and Ed. He and Ed used to talk about
our forthcoming first trip! A small world! He went to Dolce Vita
and surprised Ed. Ed did better at recognizing him, although he
couldn't remember exactly where at first. Lyle woke him up from a
nap so Ed was still half a sleep.

We will definitely stop here again at some time, maybe when we return up North.
Fair Winds to All!
