Almost Heaven, West Virginia - Country Home

On the weekend of December 14 - 17th, Sarah couldn't believe it when we said we were traveling within our travels to go see some wonderful friends who built their retirement home in the mountains of West Virginia!  John built their beautiful home, mostly himself and all his design.  To describe this place would take too long, so here is a brief description without all the details.  He has a house with 2 bedrooms, kitchen and dining area, a family room off the kitchen and a screened in porch overlooking a fabulous view!  My favorite thing is to sit in a rope swing on that porch and enjoy the breathtaking view of the mountain!  He next built a guest house with a very large guest bedroom, and an office for them.  It also has a garage.  He connected the 2 buildings with a below ground tunnel where he has a theater with a big screen TV, reclining chairs and a sofa, an area with a popcorn maker and a small frig for cold drinks!  Of course, lots and lots of movies to watch!  He then built a pavillion next to the guest house.  He wants to have some local bands come and perform for people in his area, so he built a stage.  The next building is a garage with work space, storage space, and space for cars and his Polaris, an ATV, which he drives down to the river.  There will be more projects, I am sure!  He is very creative and very energetic!

These are our 2 extremely generous hosts that invite us twice a year to spend a long weekend and open their home and their hearts and their cat, Nikky with us!

We cook together and enjoy some very delicious meals!

They live about a half hour from Berkeley Springs.  The town offices and stores decorate their parking meters for the holidays and they give the towns people and visitors free parking for a few weeks!  This was the 2nd Christmas they did this.  There's a lot of creativity "in this them hills"!

We are looking forward to our summer visit!
