Bimini, Bahamas!!

We made it to Bimini on February 27.  We had a good weather window and the voyage over was comfortable and safe!  It took us 24 hours so we had to do watches with 3 hrs. of sleep and 6 hrs. to stay up to look out for boat traffic while we kept moving onward.  Since there were 3 of us there was always 2 people on watch.  I opted for the midnight to 6 am watch with Ed.  That was rough for me since I ended up not feeling well and all I wanted was to lie down and sleep!  I kept nodding off, so it was good there were two of us on watch!  We did a second overnight trip from Bimini to Great Harbor.  I took the 9 pm to 3 am watch and that was much better for me.  I still had a tendency to nod off a bit but I was able to snap back quicker.  I learned a lot from these two watches.  We will have one more overnight passage from Bimini back to Florida and then we will only have just the 2 of us.  The shift will work out 4 hrs. off and 4 hrs. on.  Ed says this will be easier.  Sure hope so!   This will be my first watch all by myself.  The thought of this scared me a lot on our first trip, which is why Bill joined us twice back then.  He won't be able to this time.  It's time I learn.  I plan on having an air horn near me so that I can wake Ed up should I need help!

This is the quarantine flag that we put up while the Captain goes to customs and checks everyone in.  Then we can take that down and put up a Bahamas flag.  Only the Captain can leave the boat until he returns to the boat.

 This was Sister Jen's lunch van.  She was highly recommended to us by our friends, Bruce and Gayleen.  It was very tasty!

 We had lunch another day at C.J.'s by the beach.  We walked along for a while collecting shells.  Ed made friends with 2 young boys who helped find sea glass for him.  No photo though.  It was so cute!


We went to the Dolphin House again this trip.  This was where Ashley Saunders decorated every square inch inside and outside his house with shells,
objects found on the beach, leftover construction materials and made all sorts of mosaics and other kinds of art work.  I took so many photos of this on the last trip that I didn't take any this time.

We were in Bimini 3 days then we took our second overnight sail to Great Harbor Cay in the Berry Islands.

I am going to try a different way of blogging.  I may skip some days and not play catch up but continue from where I am.  I will fill in what I've skipped if I decide I want to include something special or of interest. I will see how it goes.  Inky Rose also needs to come exploring more.  She is so quiet that I forget to take her with me!  We have been traveling down the ICW (the ditch) steadily.  Navigating the ditch is tricky when you have to look at charts and mark down the tides, the depth, and all the times involved in a safe passage. There a few areas, especially in Georgia, where Dolce Vita has a terrible time finding a suitable anchoring spot.  Ed doesn't like to be at any depth lower than 6 or 7 ft. at low tide or deeper than 15 feet at high tide.  Since we don't have a windlass to pull up the anchor and chain, Ed has to do it himself and 15' is the limit of his ability to pull the heavy anchor and chain up.  Georgia has deep water and when it's not

Preparing for our new Adventure!

 Our last week home photo! One week to go for our second trip down the ICW and then back to the Bahamas!  We are in the one week to go blitz!  Feeling the crunch, a good crunch, though!  My emotions are different from the first trip.  I know, through first hand experience, just how much I will really miss everyone!  The excitement of seeing new islands is still just as thrilling and I will definitely enjoy visiting the places along the new route we are taking. Our plan is to go down Lake Okeechobee, Fl to the Gulf coast of Fl, down to the Keys for the Winter and then head to the Eleuthera and the Abaco Islands for the Spring.  As we have majorly learned from our 2016 trip, plans are always subject to change! Rose Buddies are Back! Elizabeth City, NC

When we stopped in Elizabeth City, NC two years ago we were told that they stopped the tradition of giving roses to the women and offering wine and cheese to all the visitors that came by boat to the city docks welcoming them to their charming city.  The new leader of the Visitor's Center decided to reinstate this long revered tradition.  When we docked, one of the volunteers met us, helped us with our lines and helped me get a rope around this too tall piling.  He invited us the newly renewed wine and cheese get together that evening.  (Don't know where the roses were!)  It was so nice, not only the wine and cheese, but to meet other boaters.  We met a very nice couple who had an adorable Yorkie, named Libby.  With this couple and the young couple we met on Emerald Fire back in the Dismal Swamp, we went out to dinner at a lovely restaurant where we ate in their alley outdoor eating area.  It was very quaint, but very cold.  Since there was a dog with our group we
