Marathon, Part 4

We ended up being in Marathon for the month of February.  It was an enjoyable time where we made some new acquaintances.  Had a chance to meet with a group to play Mexican Train, a group to play bocce ball, and a group to do crafts with.  It us also where our friend, Bill, joined us for the second time on this trip.

This is what Marathon looked like with a lot of boats in the harbor!

Here's the three of us getting ready for the Bahamas crossing!

We went to a Thai restaurant and I had a new favorite sushi - quail eggs!

Ed and I took a dinghy ride to Sombrero Beach for the afternoon.  It was not a big beach and definitely not a secluded one!

I had a cherry Italian ice to cool off from the hot sun!

This Osprey's favorite hang out was on the top of a boat's mast!  The boat's owner says it leaves it's fish remains and waste products on their deck.

The marina had a nice herb garden going for all the boater's to share.  This Iguana, a regular in the area, was having his lunch!

Ed and I did a provisioning run for the next part of the trip.  Publix, the local grocery delivered our online order to the marina.  From there we loaded it onto our dinghy for the trip back to the boat.  Quite a haul!

Ed and I borrowed kayaks and went with a guide through a narrow path through the Mangroves.  I didn't take any photos, I was just too busy trying to paddle!  It was a lot of fun and one of the highlights of my time in Marathon!
We learned that a jelly fish, a Caseopia, live on their backs on the floor of water.  They have a fish that feeds them and in turn the Caseopia let's them hide in their tentacles.  The round things in the water are the Caseopia.  The next photo is the jelly fish itself.  It is when there are big waves and they don't hold on well that they go floating around the waterway until the tides and current bring them back!

Bill got to us on February 26, we left for the Bahamas on February 27.

Fair Winds to All,

Joan
