Great Harbor Cay Marina, Berry Islands

We arrived in the Berry Islands on March 5 and left on March 11.

This was our second trip to Great Harbor Cay.  Lots of fond memories!

 Dolce Vita at the dock.  Just put the dinghy in the water getting ready for their event of a drink and drift.  Very much like the dinghy drift in Marathon.  A nice way to meet people!

One thing both Bill and I were looking forward to was their Conch cerviche salad!



 I had a visit from another manatee under our dinghy!


Ed and I rented a Jeep and we toured around the island.
Inky came along.

We came across a cemetery.  At home I see geese all over the graves, here, there are Ibis everywhere!

We discovered a mysterious road and decided to go exploring.


The road curved around in a kind of cul de sac, and came to a walkway through the woods.  Ed checked his phone GPS and saw that somewhere up ahead was a ghost town, called El Panos Glicko.  We got out of the Jeep to see what we could see!


Past the wooded walkway were views of the sea, but no ghost town!



This was a bit of a disappointment, but was fun trying to find it.  We looked it up but nothing came up in our search except that Panos was clothes or cloths.  Glicko is a Polish town.  I asked one local about it, but they didn't know anything about it either!

Our next outing with the Jeep was to a restaurant we found on our last trip, Coolie Mae's.
The sunsets are beautiful there, only we picked a rainy type day to go there, so it wasn't as brilliant as it was our first time there.

The marina had a lot of events to choose from.  I attended a basket weaving class which was so much fun!

We made new friends at Great Harbor, Eric and Beth.  They later met our friends, Jerry and Larissa whom we met at Everglades City.  This is the best part of cruising, meeting and remeeting people!

I am going to try a different way of blogging.  I may skip some days and not play catch up but continue from where I am.  I will fill in what I've skipped if I decide I want to include something special or of interest. I will see how it goes.  Inky Rose also needs to come exploring more.  She is so quiet that I forget to take her with me!  We have been traveling down the ICW (the ditch) steadily.  Navigating the ditch is tricky when you have to look at charts and mark down the tides, the depth, and all the times involved in a safe passage. There a few areas, especially in Georgia, where Dolce Vita has a terrible time finding a suitable anchoring spot.  Ed doesn't like to be at any depth lower than 6 or 7 ft. at low tide or deeper than 15 feet at high tide.  Since we don't have a windlass to pull up the anchor and chain, Ed has to do it himself and 15' is the limit of his ability to pull the heavy anchor and chain up.  Georgia has deep water and when it's not

Preparing for our new Adventure!

 Our last week home photo! One week to go for our second trip down the ICW and then back to the Bahamas!  We are in the one week to go blitz!  Feeling the crunch, a good crunch, though!  My emotions are different from the first trip.  I know, through first hand experience, just how much I will really miss everyone!  The excitement of seeing new islands is still just as thrilling and I will definitely enjoy visiting the places along the new route we are taking. Our plan is to go down Lake Okeechobee, Fl to the Gulf coast of Fl, down to the Keys for the Winter and then head to the Eleuthera and the Abaco Islands for the Spring.  As we have majorly learned from our 2016 trip, plans are always subject to change! From a suggestion by a sweet and creative friend of mine,  Zulienne,  I have taken a different approach to my blog this time.   My blog will be written through the "eyes" of a stuffed animal friend. Rose Buddies are Back! Elizabeth City, NC

When we stopped in Elizabeth City, NC two years ago we were told that they stopped the tradition of giving roses to the women and offering wine and cheese to all the visitors that came by boat to the city docks welcoming them to their charming city.  The new leader of the Visitor's Center decided to reinstate this long revered tradition.  When we docked, one of the volunteers met us, helped us with our lines and helped me get a rope around this too tall piling.  He invited us the newly renewed wine and cheese get together that evening.  (Don't know where the roses were!)  It was so nice, not only the wine and cheese, but to meet other boaters.  We met a very nice couple who had an adorable Yorkie, named Libby.  With this couple and the young couple we met on Emerald Fire back in the Dismal Swamp, we went out to dinner at a lovely restaurant where we ate in their alley outdoor eating area.  It was very quaint, but very cold.  Since there was a dog with our group we
